There are obvious advantages to watching a Zoom webinar on your big screen TV as opposed to your smart phone or tablet. Bigger picture, better sound, but it’s not as easy as you might think. A Zoom webinar is only viewable through the Zoom app; you can’t view a webinar through a web browser (like Chrome, Edge etc) which means Smart TVs can’t access Zoom directly. The Zoom app only works on Windows, Mac and Android, so you can only view your webinar on a desktop, laptop, tablet, or smart phone. You can, however, connect these to your TV – the trick is to know how to do this and it depends on what kind of TV you have and which device your using to access Zoom. Here are the options: If you do not have a Smart TV, the only way to connect your device to the TV is by using a cable such as HDMI. This means you’ll probably only be able to connect a desktop, laptop or one of the bigger tablets to your TV. This will also work for Smart TVs and is the easiest, most hassle-free way to watch Zoom on your TV. If you have a Smart TV, you can still use the cable option, but you can also connect your device through the home WiFi. Each Smart TV is different, so you’ll need to brush up on how to do this either by looking it up on the internet or reading the TV manual. Even then, after you’ve connected your device, you may not be able to view the Zoom app as some Smart TVs only show local video or photo content. The third option only works with Smart TV’s, and is something called ‘casting’ or ‘screen mirroring’. This may require a 3rd-party app to be downloaded to your device depending on what kind of TV you have and there are a lot of apps to choose from. Some work better than others, some are free and some are paid so this will be trial and error for your particular device and your particular Smart TV. I had some success using an Android device and an LG TV but the picture on the TV wasn’t great. Doing this will also put extra strain on your WiFi as you’re essentially using it to download the Webinar to your device, then using it again to stream the device to the TV so make sure you have a good WiFi signal strength. The fourth option is to use a device already connected to your TV such as an Amazon Fire Stick or Chromecast device and connect your phone / tablet to that first. Connecting your phone to your TV without using a cable is likely to work best if you have the same type of TV as your device, e.g. if you have an Android TV and an Android phone, then they’ll connect much easier.
